My classroom is all set up and I spent 8 hours straight today lesson planning and fitting non-targeted “CI” into step by step lesson plans for the first week of school. It is a big adjustment for me! I am getting there. (First week is easy though!)
I created two things though that I thought would be helpful to y’all! 🙂
First, a student interest survey. I will use this after my pre-test. I do plan to do the Character Traits of a Language Learner and I am spending a full day for students to set goals and dreams for their Spanish class and from there we are creating our norms together. (I will let you know how that goes). I have this older student interest survey also, and if you teach younger kids, something like this format may be more useful to you.
Second, I made this Slides show to use before the student interest survey, to get lots of movement and conversation going. I love four corners! I will probably post one of these flags in each corner to match the presentation. Y’all know that the first week of class I use a LOT of intentional English. I plan to do this for Tuesday-Friday next week and then the 10th of September, the second week of school, will be straight to 90% or more TL use! The slides show doesn’t have words on them though so you could easily do it in the TL and use it in Latin, French, German or Chinese! 🙂 I chose those flags because of my 5th grade class names this year, but you can change those too!
If you’re a Chinese teacher, please use this version created by Chloe Lu! She made the flags: China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and the US flag. You can have great conversations around the debate of whether Taiwan is a country or not and discussions around Hong Kong and its status too! Here are the big flags to put up.
There you go! I hope something is useful to you!!!
Side note, those of you waiting on my Master Brain Breaks blog, it may take a little more time. I have hit a snag with my previous employer and unfortunately, someone there is making things difficult for me and I can’t post just yet. Patience…. <3 much love!!!
Until next time,
MUCH LOVE and HAPPY TEACHING!
