Meet My Memphis…

President’s Day this year was an eventful one! My contractions started at 4:30 that morning. I knew I had 3-4 visitors from Country Day school observing that day, and I had gone through enough of our birthing classes to know that contractions could last for days before they’re close enough together for it to actually be “time” for the baby…

I taught through the contractions and then right before I was supposed to leave for my doctor’s appointment at 3, I broke up a fight between two of my students… It wasn’t challenging to do (another HUGE reason to build strong relationships with EVERY student). All I had to do was raise my voice a little and tell them that I did NOT want to have the baby today and that they were causing me (and baby) RIDICULOUS amounts of stress. They both stopped pretty quickly and said “sorry Maestra…. ” #winning #stillstressful (and yes, don’t worry, I recognize that you can’t always get that lucky even WITH relationships 😉 .)

We found out on the 14th of February that baby loc@ had a growth restriction. My belly hadn’t grown in three weeks and despite my ABSURD eating habits and consumption of over 100 grams of protein per day I was actually losing weight… (We also found out the baby’s gender because of a slip that the technician made :((( SO sad after 8 months of waiting) So this appointment on 2/18 was to listen to baby’s little heart and make sure everything was still sounding healthy.  At the end of the appointment they took my blood pressure and it was HIGH HIGH HIGH….  for the next 5 hours they monitored me and it continued to rise (super unusual for me because I am usually really LOW… When it reached 161/110 they decided to induce, at 10:30pm… (I blame the fight at school 😉 )

It was long, exhausting and more painful than anyone could have prepared me for. I was not the kindest person to my Paul and oh my gosh he was the most wonderful, understanding, helpful partner anyone could have ever asked for. He was going to help the midwives deliver baby love but in the last minute baby’s heart started to drop so they had to help him out. Yes! HIM! Paul exclaimed “IT IS A BOYYY!! we have a boy!!!!!” with total surprise, joy and SHOCK! Ever since the Thursday prior, we knew it was a girl because of a silly slip up! She was wrong!!! At 10:11am on 2/19/2019 5 lbs. 12 oz. and 19 inches long our perfect baby boy arrived.

Memphis Roy Williamson. Memphis, for Paul’s incredible daddy who passed away in May last year. He was an Elvis Tribute Artist who frequented Memphis to perform and compete… Roy for my amazing grandfather, a beloved doctor, and passionate pianist.

We had to stay in the hospital a whole week… it wasn’t fun but it was to make sure we were both strong and healthy enough to go home.

He is practically perfect in every way… I love smelling him… I stare at him for hours on end…. My heart is exploding… Overflowing with love…. days are long and nights are longer, and I never ever want him to grow up… He is magnificent…

Isla is an incredible big sister. She kisses him so softly you’d think he was made of the thinnest glass in the world. I thought I loved Paul before, but now seeing him with Memphis makes my heart overflow… I am an emotional mess (I know I was before but oh my gosh… it is so much worse now…)

I can’t wait for y’all to meet him… He is possibly traveling with me to Mitten, and will definitely be at iFLT in July. We are also excited because his doctor gave us the go ahead to attend SCOLT so I can compete for regional TOY with him strapped to me like a baby kangaroo at the end of this month! Daddy and his Googi and Popo are traveling with us for that!

THANK YOU THANK YOU to all of you for your emails and messages of good wishes, love and support! Thank you to Dawn Noble for sending me a HUGE package full of mommy supplies! Thank you Linda Taccini for my unicorn hospital socks! Thank you Faith Laux for sending the baby essentials! Thank you Darcy Pippins for his special baby blanket. Thank you Siobhan Toomey for the beautiful unicorn mama and baby music box… This baby is so loved… I am forever grateful for this community of educators who build me up and push me to be a better teacher, presenter and friend every day…

So, I may be a little bit quieter in the next few weeks but it is because I am cuddling my little man and enjoying every second of his baby smell (I am even doing that now because he is laying on my chest so that I can keep kissing him as much as I want).

Until next time,

HAPPY TEACHING!
